Live Blogging – Rumors are rife

Lots of talk about the WV site won’t be ready for the 2013 Jamboree and thus the potential to be back at A. P. Hill. Part of the issues with WV – infrastructure – no utilities, no flat spaces, limited road access. Hmmmm…

Russell Smart, the Southern Region Chief at this Jamboree, had this to say in an e-mail to all of we leaders today on this topic:
“And in case somebody tells you that National Jamboree 2013 may NOT be at the Bechtel Summit in West Virginia, you tell them that our Summit Development Chairman Jack Furst and our National Jamboree Director Larry Pritchard guarantee that it will be. And I know for a fact that Jack has no reverse gear and hardly ever uses low gear….”
Jack also stated at the arena show on Saturday that the next Jamboree WILL be held there. The question is what kind of Jamboree? Rumors were rife that the next Jamboree will be MUCH smaller — the number I heard was 15,000 participants — and that it will be high adventure focused. I also heard that National has put in a bid for the 2019 World Jamboree, to be held at The Summit, and that as part of the bid National promised they would have held two National Jamborees before that World Jamboree. I am told THAT is why the next Jamboree will be in 2013–it allows for one in 2017 and two years thereafter to prepare for a World Jamboree. In a recent Commissioner’s meeting I also heard that National intends to spend $160M on infrastructure at The Summit in the next 12 months–for roads, bridges, water and sewer–and then $140M the next year for buildings. They also plan for a $100M endowment to provide funds to maintain The Summit. That’s $400M, folks! I hope they can pull it off!
