Live Blogging the Jamboree – We’ll never know

Posted on August 4th, 2010 in Jamborees,Uncategorized by ramore

Troops began to depart at 3:30 this morning. Earlier when passing a group of Scouts in line I snapped the following picture:

Not once did I see one of these patches out for trade. My basic conclusion is that we will never know what all was issued for this Jamboree. Someone could collect this jamboree for the rest of their life and not have it all. Still though, it will give us things to look for.

I think in the case of contingent stuff it will really depend on the local collectors documenting the patches, and then the national collectors aggregating this information.

I’ve done all I can to get the Baltimore stuff listed:

One pair of patches that AREN’T out there–in the past the NE Region OA has issued a pair of Jambo patches, one for general use and a restricted border color given out by the Region Chief. Shortly before NJ, I got an email from the Region Chairman indicating that there would not be a Northeast OA patch this year.

(I’m still not sure if there are other NE Region issues out there. I have documented the main NE Region NJ patch and the set of JSPs for Subcamp 2 Staff, but I would not be at all surprised to see more NE Region items surface.)

I asked about Subcamp staff patches at all of the NE Region subcamps and was told at Subcamps 1, 4 & 5 that none were issued. Subcamp 2 had a set of 18 (ridiculous) that I traded for. Subcamp 3 had a single “Subcamp Niagara Staff” patch, which I also traded for.

I agree with Dave that there were no Northeast Region patches (or pins) issued for sale at the region level, unlike the past few jamborees. What I do NOT know is whether the participants received a special Northeast Region patch at the end of the Jamboree. I am in Southern Region and all of the contingent members received a special red mylar border Southern Region patch at the end of the event, and of course the adults all received a buckle. There was a buckle for the adults (and probably youth staff) for each of the four regions, and one NE Region buckle has already sold on ebay for $100.01. The question is whether there also was a patch.

There were at least two Subcamp 5 staff patches, including a Medical Staff JSP, but there was no region indicated on the patches.
I’m pretty sure there was no patch accompanying the belt buckle.
There was also a VIP dinner patch from Subcamp 2, which I have only seen a picture of.
