Live Blogging the Jamboree – Trivia

Posted on August 3rd, 2010 in Jamborees,Uncategorized by ramore

When the Jamboree is in session, it is the 9th largest city in Virginia. I wonder where it fits in when all of the visitors are added in? Probably for West Virginia we’ll be the second largest city.

Ron Boller pointed out that Hostess Snowballs were first distributed at the 1964 jamboree. (Ron’s full of trivia – ask him which Presidents from FDR forward were not presented the Silver Buffalo.)

Dean Klingler who is helping with the Collections Merit Badge came in this morning with a set of 32 patches from one (1!) troop. See twelve of the patches below – way to go Buffalo Trail Council – the patch companies must love you (but I’m not so sure collectors will, or should):

Yes there were patches present at the Jamboree (and trading is one of the most popular activities, again…)

Besides sets the ‘trend’ this year are centers for the patches. Here’s one of Cascade Pacific’s:

Live Blogging the Jambo – Staff Show Canceled

Posted on July 26th, 2010 in Jamborees,Uncategorized by ramore

We were working in 103 degree weather to set-up. As we were finishing up our staff meeting we were told the staff show was canceled due to an imminent severe storm. We left before it hit (If it hit as these are really localized storms. But Washington, DC and the parade got wiped out earlier in the day.)

We took the scenic route out of camp and there look to be several very interesting displays in the exhibit and Merit Badge Midway areas.

We got a pre-showing of the OA Mysterium, see Prepping for the Jambo, this is going to be some opportunity for Jamboree participants and visitors. Here are some previews:
