Live Blogging the Jamboree – Trivia
When the Jamboree is in session, it is the 9th largest city in Virginia. I wonder where it fits in when all of the visitors are added in? Probably for West Virginia we’ll be the second largest city.
Ron Boller pointed out that Hostess Snowballs were first distributed at the 1964 jamboree. (Ron’s full of trivia – ask him which Presidents from FDR forward were not presented the Silver Buffalo.)
Live Blogging the Jamboree – New Old Merit Badges
Turns out April was a big roll-out for new merit badges. Many of them are here to be earned.
Invention is now back as Inventing. It was rolled out at MIT. Different requirements (the original asked you to get a patent).
Something old:
And something new – Scouting Heritage
Also the Coast Guard is doing Geocaching.
Live Blogging the Jambo – Staff Show Canceled
We were working in 103 degree weather to set-up. As we were finishing up our staff meeting we were told the staff show was canceled due to an imminent severe storm. We left before it hit (If it hit as these are really localized storms. But Washington, DC and the parade got wiped out earlier in the day.)
We took the scenic route out of camp and there look to be several very interesting displays in the exhibit and Merit Badge Midway areas.
We got a pre-showing of the OA Mysterium, see Prepping for the Jambo, this is going to be some opportunity for Jamboree participants and visitors. Here are some previews:
