First Year Camp Rondack Staff Patch NY

Posted on April 23rd, 2004 in Camps by dhoffard

We got this information in about a patch we recently offered. We really like getting this information for two reasons. One, I collect camp patches and appreciate their history. Two, if we don’t capture this information now, it will be lost over time. I actively collect felt camp patches. Many just have a single letter on a piece of felt. For many of them, we no longer know what camp they represent.

Here’s the information:

This is a Rondack camp patch from Manhattan Council, not a Camp Manhattan patch. The last year of Camp Manhattan was 1953. In 1954, the camp was divided into two separate camps for Manhattan Council, New York – Keowa and Rondack. This is the staff neckerchief patch for Camp Rondack (hence the red R). The Manhattan on the patch refers to Manhattan Council not Camp Manhattan.

Baluga Chapter of 498 flap history (former lodge 538)

Posted on April 22nd, 2004 in OA by dhoffard

From the former chapter adviser at the time, Carroll Palmore:

This is not a private issue. It is a historical chapter issue that was issued by the Baluga Chapter of 498 in 1985 as a fund raiser for SME. The patch was ordered by Ed Zall (the DE for the Philippines) and made at the same location that the original Baluga flaps were ordered. The sky color was changed to distinguish it from the original. A second very limited issued with a darker yellow sky was given to to chapter officers.
