Live Blogging the Jamboree – Sharpies
We have a new category of patches now – Sharpies. Some enterprising, or bored, Scouts took to taking magic markers, Sharpies, to make black ghost patches. Some of these were so good that one had to look closely. Below is a picture of an Indian Nations JSP done up this way. I saw a Blues Brothers Northwest Suburban also done up this way that was REALLY hard to tell it was doctored. We passed it around and most of us had to look real close, and not because of failing eyesight at least yet. If it wasn’t for the marks on the red border one could pass it off as a black ghost.
Update: Found the Northwest Suburban Sharpie issue:

Unfortunately the “Sharpie” method was not new at this Jamboree. In 1997 someone faked the Housatonic Council JSP by adding (a) yellow hair to the false face; or (b) yellow hair AND a yellow border; or (c) yellow hair and a black border. AND someone also faked the Paugassett 553 Jamboree lodge flap by changing the yellow background AND false face hair to yellow. I am assuming all of these were done by the same “Scouts”.

hahaha ironically enough that was my troops patch (the blues brothers one) and me and my friend were bored. Honestly, I think the one you have pictured is one of mine! It was never done with the intent of trading as a ‘ghost’ patch, we were simply bored and even though I told people it was faked people still wanted them!

Steve, I think this was the one we made!
