Troop Specific CSPs

Posted on August 6th, 2010 in CSP,Hobby Trends by ramore

One of the nights at the Jamboree TOR Bob Salcido of California and I were comparing patches. Some of the JSPs are hard to separate from CSPs. We were looking at a pair of Minsi Trails patches and concluded they were CSPs for the 100th anniversary and not JSPs. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that we had different troops. Over the next week I looked for them and came up with four. Talking with Bob later he said he ran into their Exec and the Exec said he was not aware of these. Does anyone know any more specifics? Is this a new trend?

Here are the four I found (Bob’s was one of these troops):

I traded for a set of three Minsi Trails patches — three different color solid borders and a different design than those pictured. I thought they were JSPs, but then what are these patches?

    Geoff,
I think you do have the JSPs. What is pictured above will be classified as CSPs.

Idle speculation on my part, but could they have been made by a group of troops from the Council that were visiting the Jamboree to give their kids something to trade?

OK, so they are Troop specific CSPs for the centennial year. They appear to have the same design as the Minsi Trails centennial CSP; they just added their Troop name instead of the Pa/NJ line.

At our PLC meeting on Tuesday, one of the leaders mentioned that we can design our own CSP with our Troop number and whatever picture we want and wear them. So I don’t know if this is now allowed…

I personally think that all boys from the same council should wear the same patch — it makes it easier to see where people are from. It also makes it easier for collectors. 🙂

I have to wonder about that Exec’s general level of awareness. There’s a promo link for them on the council’s main web page:

    http://minsitrails.net/default.asp

(on the right under “Minsi News”). This links to a PDF with more details and an order form:

    http://minsitrails.net/Documents/Custom2010CSPFlyer.pdf

(Although this is still posted, it indicates that the order deadline was at the end of 2009.)

    Dave,
Good catch. I had not gone to their site. My reporting on the Exec’s comments is not from me but from Bob. It could be I heard Bob wrong or something else got lost in translation or maybe its right as written. Clearly these are 2010 100th anniv. CSPs. Does anyone know how many troops did this?
